Education

Max graduated from New Mexico State University in 1978 and 1982 with a Bachelor’s and Master’s Degrees in Agricultural Economics.  In 1985 he received a Law Degree (Doctor of Jurisprudence) from Texas Tech University School of Law.

Professional Experience

Mr. Best is the sole shareholder, director and president of the firm.  He has an active and busy estate planning and probate practice, including tax planning, elder law and trust work.  He also has a very active business practice that includes work in the areas of agriculture law, real estate entity formation and planning (including work in the wind energy area).  Prior to establishing the firm in 1990, Mr. Best served as general counsel to Governor Gary Carruthers from 1989 through 1990.

Professional Activities

Mr. Best is a member of the State Bars of New Mexico and Texas.  Mr. Best has previously served as a director and chair of the Real Estate, Probate and Trust Law Section as well as the Business Law Section of the State Bar of New Mexico.  He has also served as president of the Curry-Roosevelt County Bar Association in New Mexico.  Further, he has also served as a member of the Steering Committee which adopted and drafted the New Mexico Limited Liability Company Act.  Mr. Best has previously lectured to professional, business and client groups on the subject matters of business entity planning, estate planning, elder law issues and wind energy law.

Civic Activities

Mr. Best has previously served as the president and is currently serving as a member of the Board of Education for the Clovis Municipal School District.  Mr. Best is also on the Board of Directors of the New Mexico FFA Foundation, and is president of the High Plains Chapter of the Texas Tech Alumni Association.  In the past he has served as vice-president and board member of the Clovis Curry County Chamber of Commerce, president of the Clovis Rotary Club, board member of the Curry County United Way and chairperson of the Livestock Sales Committee for the Curry County Fair.  In addition, he has been very active in youth sports organizations, including Little League Baseball and in his local church, Central Baptist Church, serving as a member of the Board of Trustees and as a Sunday School teacher.
